KADEN ELLISS, Judge Memorial, foootball: This junior quarterback played a very poised game for the young Bulldogs in his first game as a starter last Friday night.
Elliss threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more to lead Judge to the easy 38-0 victory over Tooele.
Both of Elliss' passing TDs came in the first quarter, and both went to sophomore Braden Pelly, covering distances of 38 and 30 yards. He tacked on an early rushing TD as well to lead Judge to the 21-0 lead after the first quarter.
Elliss should be a level-headed leader for the Bulldogs this season. He gained some valuable varsity experience as a contributor to Judge's boys basketball team last season.
MARIAH ELMER, Fremont, soccer: Though a number of Silver Wolves could have earned the award, Elmer has been a key component of Fremont's early success. The talented junior has proven to be an offensive spark, leading the team with eight goals and piling up the assists with unselfish play.
Elmer scored a hat trick in the opening 10 minutes against Herriman on Aug. 7, and scored two more goals later that week against Sky View.
"She has stepped it up big time this year," Fremont head coach Lativa Palmer said. "She is healthier and a lot more explosive."
The speedy forward, who has dealt with a knee injury, started her sophomore year and saw some varsity time as a freshman. She was recently invited to attend an Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) training camp and her skills did not go unnoticed.
According to ESPNHS, the coaches at the camp deemed Elmer one of the most exciting athletes on the field. "She's very fast, strikes a good ball, and she's got a flip throw that's got to be at least 40 yards."
Coach Palmer agreed. "She is one of our go-to players. She is so fast on the ball and she is able to create a lot of things."
Elmer works hard and enjoys playing alongside her talented sister and Portland bound Mikayla Elmer. Both will make a hefty contribution as Fremont competes for a top spot in a tough Region 1.
