IVINS (AP) — Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is traveling to southern Utah to dedicate the Red Cliffs and Beaver Dam Wash national conservation areas.
Officials say Salazar is due at the Tuacahn Amphitheater in Ivins for a ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Bureau of Land Management Director Bob Abbey also is expected to be on hand, along with state, local and tribal leaders.
The national conservation areas were designated by Congress in 2009. They're part of BLM's National Landscape Conservation System, which covers 27 million acres of the West's most spectacular landscapes.
Monday's ceremony will feature a dance and blessing from Shivwitz Band of Paiute.
The event is open to the public at no charge.
