SALT LAKE CITY — City Creek Center, the retail portion of the $1.5 billion mixed-use development in the heart of downtown, is set to open March 22 with a ribbon-cutting at 9:30 a.m.

The 700,000-square-foot shopping center — the only regional shopping center scheduled to open in the United States in 2012 — is a sustainably designed urban community with a retractable roof, a creek that winds through the property as well as a pedestrian skybridge over Main Street. The residential portion of the center was developed by City Creek Reserve Inc., a for-profit development firm owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

More than 90 retailers will occupy the downtown shopping center once completed.
