Egbert B. Grandin and his wife, Harriet, were residents of the Palmyra, N.Y., area. Grandin was younger than Joseph Smith. In their family was a son, Carlton, who developed an ailment in his leg similar to what Joseph Smith once suffered when he was a boy living in New Hampshire. Young Carlton suffered immensely before passing away at age 5.
After publishing the 1830 edition of the Book of Mormon, Egbert B. Grandin did not stay in the business very long. It is believed that the only other book he published was this "Mathematical Science" book written by Tobias Ostrander.
Egbert Grandin, who passed away in 1845, lived almost exactly as long as Joseph Smith did.
