Helen Mathison1924 ~ 2012Our sweet Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Left this earth Feb. 2, 2012 to return to the waiting arms of her eternal companion Leonard James Mathison.Helen was born Jan. 7th 1924 to Eva and Spencer HeinerShe was a wonderful daughter and sister. Helen was an excellent student and excelled in shorthand and typing. Eventually working for many years at the Utah State Historical Society, She was amazing! She was an active member of the LDS church and served in many callings with a willing and happy heart in the Parleys 2nd Ward. Helen loved her friends and would get together with them often keeping in touch with many childhood friends.She met the love of her life, Leonard James Mathison and they were married in the Salt Lake temple Nov. 17,1942.Leonard served in the Army during WWII where Helen traveled and easily found secretarial work wherever he was stationed. After 7 years of Marriage they together started their great family having 4 children, Sherri, Dwight, Karen, and Mark. Helen was a wonderful mom and grandma She loved her family and was very proud of them. You could always count on grandma to have her camera to snap a few shots.She enjoyed family get togethers and reunions. You could not visit her without her wanting to feed you! There is always room for Ice cream!We will miss your sweet smile and cheerful spirit, unconditional love, and wisdom always. Enjoy your reunion mom. We love you.Helen is survived by her children, Sherri (Doug) Pieper, Dwight Mathison, Karen Pace, Mark (Susan) Mathison. 19 grandchildren, many great grand children with many more still to come. Helen was preceded in death, by her husband, brother, parents and granddaughter Stevie (Tammi) Staples.A special thanks to all the many doctors who cared for her especially those at Legacy House Retirement Center, and the staff at IMC hospital and Dr. Thomas Dietz.Funeral services will be held at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary 3115 East Bengal Blvd. (7800 South) on Friday February 10th 11:00 am.
