Real Salt Lake kicks off its preseason with fitness testing Thursday morning at the Spence Eccles Field House, but only 22 of the 32 players on the preseason roster are expected to participate.
Nick Rimando is flying back from Panama following the U.S. National Team's match on Wednesday.
Kyle Beckerman (groin), Nat Borchers (quad), Will Johnson (groin), Javier Morales (Achilles) and Alvaro Saborio (knee) are all out with injury. The team, however, anticipates that Morales and Johnson will be back on the field when the team heads to Arizona on Jan. 31 for the next phase of the preseason.
RSL first-round draft pick Enzo Martinez will join the team in Arizona next week, while Paulo Jr., supplemental draft pick Benjamin Ubierna and trialist Terukazu Tanaka should arrive in Utah later this weekend.
Real Salt Lake will train in Utah Thursday through Sunday before departing for Arizona on Tuesday.
Supplemental draft pick Oliver Kupe won't join the team until later in the season as he focuses on finishing his degree this spring at Northwestern University.
