Texas Gov. Rick Perry is dropping out of the race for the GOP presidential nomination Thursday, CNN is reporting.
An announcement is expected later this morning. It is not known if Perry will endorse one of the remaining candidates. Perry had dubbed frontrunner Mitt Romney a “vulture capitalist,” and joined former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich in criticizing Romney’s business record.
Perry’s exit leaves Gingrich and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum both fighting for the conservative vote in Saturday’s Republican primary in South Carolina.
