BLANDING — The Utah Army National Guard renamed its Blanding armory to honor a soldier killed in Afghanistan.
The facility was rededicated as the James E. Thode Armory during a ceremony on Friday.
Thode was a member of the 118th Engineer Company, 1457th Engineer Battalion. He was killed Dec. 2, 2010 from injuries suffered when his unit was attacked by insurgents with an improvised explosive device.
The 45-year-old Kirtland, N.M. resident enlisted in the military in 1984.
He joined the Utah National Guard as a combat engineer in 2002 and also deployed with his unit to Iraq in 2003.
