Audrea (Kay) Kiser ReesMay 17, 1915 ~ Dec. 5, 2011Audrea Kay Rees passed away on December 5, 2011 at the age of 96. She was born in Kentucky on May 24, 1915 to Francis and Rosa Kiser and attended public school in Ironton, Ohio. She graduated from Holzer Hospital Nursing School and attended the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Kay married Vincent L. Rees, M.D. on July 2, 1940 in AnnArbor, Michigan. Thus began a devoted companionship of 71 years.Kay and Vin moved to Utah in June 1943 where Vin had an appointment on the faculty of the University of Utah School of Medicine. They were blessed with four children: Carol Carman (Craig); Barbara Paxton (Gary, deceased) Pahnke (Ralph); William Rees MD (Jana); Debra Whipple (Stephen), all of Salt Lake City, 16 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. These cherished relationships were the focus of her life.Kay enjoyed serving in the community as a leader in the American Red Cross, Community Nursing, Utah State and Salt Lake County Medical Auxiliaries, Utah Symphony Guild, Utah State Women's Legislative Council and was a founding member of the Salt Lake Assistance League. She was a longtime member of the Town Club and active in the LDS Church.Kay was a loyal friend to many and loved to host festive gatherings flavored by her delicious cooking. She was kind, compassionate, and generous. Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 9, 2011 at 12:00 Noon in the Emigration 4th Ward Chapel (589 East 18th Ave, Salt Lake City, Utah). The family will meet with friends on Thursday, December 8th at the Larkin Mortuary (260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City) from 6 to 8:00 p.m., and on Friday, December 9th at the church from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery, (2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City).Her parents, two sisters and a brother preceded her in death.Our sincere gratitude to Symbii Home Health and Hospice, especially Kiya Hix and Rachelle VanWagoner, and the thoughtful caregivers of Emeritus Assisted Living.
