Afton William Vanderlinden1929 ~ 2011On November 12, 2011 Afton William Vanderlinden returned to heaven to be with his wife of 55 years. He was 82 years old. Born to Geertrui and Willem Vanderlinden on July 18, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Afton spent time learning carpentry from his father and grew to become a skilled craftsman and artist. He enjoyed living in Alaska while in the Army. He married Bunnie Merle McKinlay on April 21, 1955 and raised four children in Holladay, Utah. Afton graduated from the University of Utah and worked as the Advertising Director for Skaggs Alpha Beta for 35 years, followed by 11 years at the Historical Department of the LDS church. He was dedicated to producing quality work. Afton loved camping with his family, skiing, and spending time in nature. He shared that love with others as a Scoutmaster for over 15 years. He is survived by his brother Ralph, four children, thirteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. We will miss you Grandpa Bill! Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life from 6:00 to 7:30 on Saturday, November 19th at his church on 4601 South 2565 East, Holladay, Utah. The grandchildren's memories of Afton will be shared at 6:30.
