Derek Gent1932 ~ 2011Woods Cross, UTOur father, grandfather and brother, Derek Gent, 79, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at George E. Wahlen Veterans Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on July 12, 1932 in Leicester, England, a son of George Ernest and Margaret Emma Wood Gent. Derek graduated from the University of Utah. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Derek was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in Bishoprics, High Priest Group Leader, Family History Consultant and as a Branch President in England during his mission. He married Deanna Marie Tea on July 2, 1965 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were later divorced.Derek enjoyed soccer, University of Utah Football, and family history. He was very pleased to live the last few months of his life with Stephen, Amelia, Jenika and Wyatt his new grandson in their new home in Woods Cross. Surviving are two sons, Michael (Konny) Gent, Brigham City; Stephen (Amelia) Gent, Woods Cross; six grandchildren, Stefanie, Kristofer, Niklaus, Taushae, Jenika, Wyatt; one sister, Nora Morris, Taylorsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, Grace, Gladys, George, Dennis, Raymond, Margaret and Bernard.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Woods Cross LDS 9th Ward Chapel, 790 W. 1500 S. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Brigham City Honor Guard.
