Sherrie Sumsion1943 ~ 2011Our beloved wife and mother began the next phase of her life on October 17, 2011 surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. Sherrie Geraldine Pace Sumsion was born on July 6, 1943 in Provo Utah, the fifth of eleven children. She graduated from Provo High School in 1961 and from BYU in 1965 with a degree in elementary education. After waiting for him on his mission, Sherrie married Steve Sumsion of Springville on June 10, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple. She taught kindergarten for two years at Sage Creek Elementary school in Springville to support her husband while he finished college. Sherrie loved three things in life: her family, the LDS Church, and serving others. She enjoyed the annual family trips to Disneyland, having the entire family over for dinner each Sunday, doing family history and scrapbooking, and tending grandchildren several times each week. She has sat through hundreds of her children and grandchildren's school and church programs, sporting events, and concerts. She was always ready with a picnic for any occasion, regardless of the time of year or the temperature outside. Sherrie was active in the LDS church and served in multiple Relief Society, Young Womens and Primary presidencies. In addition to her other callings, she has been serving a church service mission with her husband in the member locator department for the last seven years. There was seldom a time when a church service sign-up sheet was passed around that did not have her name. Sherrie was also active in the community, serving as PTA President, 4 H Leader, and in scouting. She was the proud recipient of two Eagle Scout awards which she earned through her sons. Sherrie is preceded in death by her parents (Alfred and Phyllis Pace); and siblings, Joann, Carol, Gary, and Terry. She is survived by her children, Kelly (Chris) Spivey, Steven (Alisa), Scott (Alesha), and Shauna (Jamin) Thompson; fifteen grandchildren, Ammon, Julie, Jarom, Sarah, Jacob, Heidi, Michael, Jonathan, Matthew, Rachel, Emily, Ashlee, Christopher, Amber and Terrick; and siblings, Alfred, Robert, Allen, Elayne, Sue, and Lawanna. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Midvale 8th Ward located at 8350 S. Jackson Street (200 West) in Midvale. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 on Friday, October 21, 2001 at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State, and Saturday one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville. The family wishes to thank Summit Home Care. Thanks for the memories until we meet again!
