SPOKANE, Wash. — The BYU women's soccer team (8-4-3, 2-1-1) finished its week on the road with a 3-2 victory over Gonzaga (7-6-2, 0-2-2) on Saturday, and with six saves in front of the net, senior goalkeeper McKinzie Olson became BYU's all-time career saves leader.
To date, Olson has recorded a total of 265 career saves to pass the previous record of 261 set by Erika Woodbury in 2007.
Coming out strong in the second, Gonzaga was first to put points on the board with a goal from Kasey Ruboksy in the 48th minute.
The Cougars answered that goal with two of their own, the first coming from Lauren Crosby with a shot over the keeper in the upper left corner.
UTAH VALLEY 3, HOUSTON BAPTIST 1: At Orem, in a match that pitted the first two teams to win Great West Conference championships, Utah Valley topped Houston Baptist, 3-1, on Saturday night at Clyde Field to move to 3-0 in conference. Regan Clifford scored the game-winning goal.
IUPUI 2, SUU 0: At Cedar City, the Thunderbirds had several solid scoring opportunities early on but were unable to get anything past Jaguar goalkeeper Giselle Guzman who finished the game with nine saves.Southern Utah was held scoreless for the seventh time this season.
EASTERN WASHINGTON 3, WEBER STATE 0: At Ogden, Eastern Washington's Whitney Brannan had a goal and two assists as the previously winless Eagles stunned the league-leading Wildcats 3-0 at Wildcat Soccer Field.
