Antonio (Tony) Torres1925 ~ 2011Salt Lake City, UtahOur father, Antonio (Tony) Torres, died on October 5, 2011 at the age of 85. He was born December 3, 1925, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Manuel Sanchez and Agustina Rivera Torres. He grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School in 1943. Upon graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the South Pacific.He married Miquelita (Kelly) Lovato on May 29, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. Our mother passed away on November 24, 1991. He then married Esperanza (Hope) Torres, in 1993. Our father was an active member of the LDS Church. He served as Bishop of the Lucero Ward and on the Stake High Council in the Temple View and Foothill Stakes. He was a Salt Lake Temple worker and served in many other leadership positions. He also served a mission with Hope, to the Chicago Illinois Mission.Dad owned, and operated Manuel's Mexican Fine Foods, Inc. He also started the El Mercado market and restaurant. He was very active and had many friends in the community. Dad could fix anything and did whatever it took to run the business.We would like to thank Holladay Heath Care, Veterans Administration rest homes, and Sunbrook Hospice for taking good care of our dad over the past few years. Dad is survived by his wife Hope, his children, Paul (Irene), Orlando (Mary Lou), Diane Bodell (Richard), Miguel "Mike" (Wendy) and grandchildren, Stephanie, Shellise, Mario, Emilio, Jason, Michelle, Jennifer, Doug, Brian, Kaycee, Jacquelyn, Ashley, Alicia, and Shannon, and 17 great-grandchildren, his sisters, Mary McCune (Conwell) and Elena Torres and many close cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by our mother, Kelly, his parents, brother, Jose (Joe) Torres, and sister, Rebecca Chavez. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 10, 2011, at 11:00 AM at the Foothill 7th Ward, 2215 Roosevelt Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family may call Sunday evening from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM, at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah, and at the Ward on Monday at 9:45 AM prior to services.
