Melinda Kay Phelps Humes1944 ~ 2011Melinda Kay Phelps Humes, 67, passed away at home on September 20, 2011 after a courageous six year battle with cancer. She was born to Anne E. Oliver Maddox and J.M. Phelps in Montpelier, Idaho on March 31, 1944.She married Neal Shafter and they had two children, Tomy Joe and Chris Shafter, they divorced. She married A. E. Turner and they had three boys, Lonnie, A.E., Jr. and Tee J Turner, they divorce. She then married the love of her life, Allen Joe Humes and inherited seven stepchildren.She loved shopping, especially for the grandkids and great grandkids. She love traveling anywhere and everywhere.Survived by her loving husband, "Joe"; mother, Anne Maddox; children: Tomy Joe (Kathleen) Shafter, Las Vegas, NV; Chris Shafter, Pleasant Grove, Lonnie and Tee J Turner, Delta; 23 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; father-in-law, Allen Humes, American Fork; stepchildren: Joe Lynn Chapman, Sherry Thomas, Brett (Liz) and Joel Chorniak, Dee Ann (Mike) Ortalano, Andrea and Jared Humes; siblings: Toni (Mike) Ashenbrener, Tucson, AZ; Val (Nila) Phelps, St George; Judy (Edward) Steele, West Valley City; Gary (Tamara) Maddox, Colville, WA; Jimmie (Lynne), Larry and sister-in-law Lena Gean Phelps, American Fork; in-laws: J.D. (Cindy) Humes and Jeanette (Tom) Kummer, American Fork. She is also loved and survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Preceded in death by infant son, A.E. Turner, Jr.; brother Elder Bruce Maddox; dad Bill Maddox, mother-in-law, LaDenna Humes; granddaughter Sabrina Turner; grandson BradLee Chorniak and brother Bob Phelps.The family wished to thank Melinda's special nurse & helper, Aycee Shiner (granddaughter), Lindsay Clark and the personnel at Applegate Hospice. A special thanks to Dr. Sean Curzon.Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary Chapel, 49 East 100 North, American Fork. A viewing will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45-10:45 prior to the services. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers please send donation to the American Cancer Society.
