PROVO — With the team starting their Ole Miss preparations, live team drills were scrapped in favor of scout team work. No stats were recorded, subsequently, and the next stats posted by this BYU football team will be against an actual opponent.
The team has settled into its roles for the coming season. Among those settling into their roles are those who will be part of the special teams units.
Mike Hague is one player who will play an active role on both punt and kick return teams, along with some other potential work. Having had good experience with special teams, he was a natural choice for any of the special team group captains.
On kick return, he'll be leading the way for Jordan Johnson, while returning those kicked balls to his side of the field. According to Hague, Johnson is going to remind a lot of fans of another notable kick returner, maybe the most notable kick returner in BYU history: James Dye.
The Deseret News talked to Hague about his special teams roles and about Johnson following today's practice session (see video links). Head coach Bronco Mendenhall also talked about specific game prep for Ole Miss along with which players he's expecting to return to the team.
