Donald William Hemingway 1919 ~ 2011 Donald William Hemingway, 92, passed away on June 1, 2011 in Salt Lake City, UT. As we mourn his passing here, we are sure that he has been joyfully greeted by his wife, family, friends, and the hundreds of thousands of kindred dead whose names he found and submitted to the temple throughout his life. Don was born in Salt Lake City on March 13, 1919, to William Joseph and Flora Christina (McDonald) Hemingway. He grew up in Ely, Nevada and graduated from White Pine High School. He later graduated from BYU and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California. During his life, Don held many titles including, Private (US Army in World WarII), Attorney, Lt. Colonel (U.S. Air Force), Elder (missionary in Canada, Hawaii, and Australia for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), Patriarch, Stake President (London, England and Pioneer Stakes), Bishop (25th Ward), Teacher (White Pine High School - music, BYU Salt Lake and BYU Hawaii - religion), author (14 books), and temple worker (Salt Lake Temple). The most important titles he held were Dad and Grandpa. Don loved his family, the gospel, music, writing, and he liked his meals served on time. He spent his life searching out the names of his ancestors and their families. He always encouraged you to "carry on!" Don is survived by his six children, David (Gay Etta), Delwin (Janice), Michael (Lee Ann), Mary Bywater (Ed), Floralee Shumway, and Jan Mecham (Ray, deceased), and by his 34 grandchildren and numerous great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna, brother Tom, and parents. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at the Ensign Stake Center at 135 A Street (the corner of 3rd Avenue and A Street) at 12:00 noon. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Friends may also attend a viewing on Monday, June 6 at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Elysian Gardens, 1075 E. 4580 S., Salt Lake City, UT.
