Mary Godfrey Burley, Idaho Mary Edith VanValkenburg Godfrey, age 89, of Burley, Idaho, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. She was born on Sept. 6, 1921, in Fort Union, Utah, the daughter of Pete and Edith (Carlisle) VanValkenburg. She was a graduate of Jordan High School. She married Seymour John Godfrey on Sept. 17, 1943, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together, they had one son, Seymour John Godfrey, Jr. "Jack." Mary worked in the Arms Plant during World War II and was a farm wife where she worked along-side her husband in Bennion, Utah. In her younger years she enjoyed gardening and handwork - especially crocheting. However, most important to Mary was her loving family. She cherished time spent with her son, grandchildren and great-grand-children. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in various callings throughout her life. Her most remembered calling was serving in the Boise LDS Temple with her beloved husband, Seymour. Survivors include her son and his wife, Jack and Lane Godfrey of Burley, Idaho; her grandchildren, Travis Godfrey, Ben (Letticia) Godfrey, Matt (Miranda) Godfrey, and Rachel (Eli) Hansen; her great-grandchildren, Mickeala Scheffner, Dylan, Lilly, Maya and Brielle Godfrey, Jordi and Jaxson Hansen, Aubrey Simmons, and Sophia Godfrey (who is on the way.); her sisters, Beth Hurst of Reno, Nevada, and Afton Harper of Salt Lake City; and her brothers, Leland VanValkenburg of Salt Lake City, and Roy VanValkenburg living in Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Shannon Godfrey; and three brothers, Richard, Wayne and Orin VanValkenburg. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, with Bishop Guy Redder officiating. Burial will be in Gem Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday and from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the Rasmussen Funeral Home.
