Tor Landro 1946 ~ 2011 Our brother, Tor Landro, died of a heart ailment on April 5, 2011 at his home in San Leandro, California. Tor was born November 10, 1946 in Bergen, Norway to Alexander Guttorm Landro and Lizzie Saetrum Landro. With his family, he immigrated to the United States February 12, 1948. Tor grew up in South Salt Lake and attended the local schools including Granite High School where he excelled in wrestling. He graduated with the Class of 1965. He received a wrestling scholarship from Utah State. Tor joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966 and served in Vietnam as a rifleman. Wounded twice in combat, he was awarded a Purple Heart and a Purple Heart with a star. He richly deserved the title of "disabled veteran." His occupation was roofer. He was a member of the LDS Church. Tor was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his siblings: Guttorm Landro, Kari Landro, Alex Landro, and Lisbeth Monroe, 12 nieces and nephews, and 19 grandnieces and grandnephews. Tor's cremated remains have been buried at the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery, located at 17111 South Camp Williams Road (Redwood Road) in Bluffdale. A memorial in his honor will be held Saturday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m. graveside. His family wishes to invite friends and anyone who wants to remember Tor to attend.
