Betty Jean Chatham Hansen 1938 ~ 2011 Betty Jean Chatham Hansen passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 due to Lou Gehrig's disease. Betty was born on September 25, 1938 to Harry Herbert Chatham and Ruby Hafen in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her family moved to California while she was young and that's where she grew up and learned to love the warmth of the sun. She was a graduate of Lynwood High School and from there went on to attend college at BYU, earning a Bachelors in Science. While at the "Y" she met and married the love of her life, Douglas L. Hansen, and they were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on June 11, 1960. Betty was an extremely talented woman with many gifts, and a compassion and love for her family and friends. She painted china for many years, eventually opening a studio in the basement of her home to share and teach this great gift and talent. Many have been blessed with pieces of her work, which we will forever cherish. Music was also a wonderful gift she had, and she played the piano and organ for many years at church, and played the organ in the Jordan River Temple as well. She served in many callings over the years, most recently as the Gospel Doctrine teacher which she fretted over, but truly loved. Her greatest talent and gift however, was being a wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Betty is survived by her son, David (Angela) Hansen, West Jordan; daughter Antina (Daniel) Fisk, Tooele; four grandchildren; one great grandchild with another great grandchild on the way; brothers-in-law, Gene Rider and Mac (Dolores) Hansen; sisters-in-law, Mary Cederholm, and JoAnn Hansen; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Douglas L. Hansen, parents; sister Connie Rider and brother-in-law, Pete Hansen. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church, 1555 Lovely Road, Taylorsville with a viewing Wednesday, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and again at the church 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
