Margaret (Peggy) Wallace Thorpe 1931 ~ 2011 ST. GEORGE, UTAH - On April 11, 2011, Margaret (Peggy) Wallace Thorpe passed away quietly after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family including her husband, Jack Charles Thorpe, her three daughters, Allison D. Ward, Susan Anne Thorpe, and Tracy Thorpe Goolishian, as well as her devoted little white Westie, Winston.Peggy was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, August 21, 1931 to Lewis J. Wallace and Anna Garden Widtsoe Wallace. She spent her childhood in Salt Lake City. She attended the University of Utah for two years, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in Sociology. While at BYU, she met her future husband, Jack Thorpe and they were married for eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 18, 1956. She saw life as a great adventure and faced it with courage, enthusiasm, and joy. Peggy devoted her life to her family and to being an active and beloved member of the LDS Church. She was especially versed in Gospel doctrine and was an inspiring teacher. She had a deep and profound love for temple work and was a prodigious contributor to the genealogical name extraction program. Those that knew her have described her as a loving and elegant lady. Peggy set a powerful example of unconditional love and kindness. She was a living example of her favorite scripture, "Thy servant has sought thee earnestly: now I have found thee." Abraham 2:12 Peggy is survived by her husband, three daughters, nine grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her son, Brett Wallace Thorpe, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2003. The abundance of her love and spirit continues to grow with each generation. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to all the wonderful of people who have offered their support and enabled Peggy to depart with grace and dignity. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bloomington LDS Stake Center, 200 West Brigham Road, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd and on Friday prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center.
