Jens Gunner Andersen 1916 ~ 2011 Gunner passed away on January 30, 2011 at 94 years young of causes incident to old age at his home in The Avenues Courtyard in Slt Lake City.Born March 11, 1916 in Bodstrup, Denmark to Hans Peter Andersen and Anna Kristine Nielsen. He married his sweetheart Emma Elise Jensen on May 9, 1941 in Slagelse, Denmark and was later sealed to her and his children in the Salt Lake Temple on May 21, 1954. Gunner loved art and scouting and served as a cub master for a group of scouts in Slagelse, Denmark for some time. Many of his beautiful oil paintings grace the homes of his family members. Gunner, Elise and their two children Kai and Vinni immigrated to the U.S. in 1953. Gunner took odd jobs until he could return to the painting business. He graduated from technical college in Copenhagen in 1939 as a master painter and worked as a painter into his 80's. He was an expert in his field and took pride in his work. Gunner's family was his priority and he provided well for them. He was a member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many capacities. Gunner was a Branch President in Slagelse and in Salt Lake served as a scoutmaster and later as a clerk in several bishoprics. He also served in various capacities in the High Priest group. He was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers: Svend, Viggo, Paul and his sister Mary, and his daughter Vinni. He is survived by his wife Emma Elise and son Kai (Ilene) and five grandchildren: Lane (Devra), Eneli, Kenton (Molly), Braden (Stephanie), and Kailee (Thayne) Johnson as well as six great-grandchildren (Sofie, Sawyer, Harper, Beck, Kate, and Kai). Gunner will lovingly be remembered for his ready, warm smile and the twinkle in his eyes. We'll fondly remember his telling of numerous stories and experiences of relatives and friends he associated with while living in Denmark. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 12 Noon at the 20th Ward building at 107 G Street in Salt Lake City. A viewing will take place prior from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South.
