Ronald Mackay Frandsen 1946 ~ 2010 Ronald Mackay Frandsen will be remembered by all who knew him for his patience, faith, and courage as he valiantly endured ALS , Lou Gehrig's Disease. With his wife at his bedside in his home, he peacefully passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010.Ron was born on February 14, 1946 in Salina, Utah and was raised by his parents, Allen John and Evelyn Mackay Frandsen in Centerfield, Utah. He graduated from Gunnison Valley High School in 1964 where he was elected Studentbody President. In 1970 he graduated from Brigham Young University Cum Laude with a degree in Political Science. After college he served his country in the United States Army, active duty, Military Intelligence from 1970 to 1972. He married Shauna Sono Ushio in the Manti LDS Temple on June 12, 1974 and together they raised three children in Salt Lake City. After he attained his law degree from the University of Chicago he practiced law in Chicago, Illinois and Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1983 Ron changed careers to mortgage banking and worked at American Savings, Deseret Federal Savings, CrossLand Savings and he retired from Zions Bank in 2007. Ron's interests included reading hundreds of books, studying church history, travelling with his son's soccer team, attending operas and concerts, playing the piano and organ, and designing the landscape for his home and yard. Ron was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and began his church service very early in life. At age 12 he was chosen as an organist in his home ward and served as a ward organist in every single ward in which he ever lived. He served an LDS mission in the West German Mission from 1965-1967. Favorite church service included scout master, teaching assignments, bishopric member, high councilor, and stake clerk in the Salt Lake Brighton Stake. During the years following his diagnosis, Ron volunteered for medical/clinical trials and fundraisers for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in an effort to find a cure for ALS. He was grateful for the care he received from the University of Utah ALS Clinic and its director, Dr. Mark Bromberg. Ron is survived by: his parents, Allen and Evelyn Frandsen and his wife, Shauna Ushio Frandsen, who supported and inspired him throughout his life. His children: Jill (Steven) Tew, Nicholas (Kelli) Frandsen, and Peter (Emily) Frandsen were compassionate, helpful and kind to their parents at this time. His grandchildren: Zach, Kate, Jane, Lucas, and Simon Tew and William Frandsen brought sweetness and joy to his life. Ron loved his sisters and brothers: Joan (Douglas) Gardner, Rita Gardner, Russell (Christie) Frandsen, Tracy (Pat) Frandsen, and Kelly (Kathy) Frandsen . Memorial Services will be held Friday, December 31 at 12:00 noon at the Brighton Sixth Ward, 2925 East Bengal Boulevard. Friends and family may call on Thursday, December 30 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and December 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brighton Sixth Ward prior to the Memorial Service. Interment, Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 East 7800 South.
