SEATTLE — BYU's season-opening opponent, Washington, will be without starting tight end Kavario Middleton this fall. Coach Steve Sarkisian announced that Middleton was dismissed from the team for an unspecified violation of team rules. Sarkisian did not specify the nature of the violation and the school said there would be no further comment on the matter.

Middleton played in all 12 games as a freshman in 2008 and he started 11 of 12 games a year ago. He caught 26 passes for 257 yards and three touchdowns last season in Sarkisian's first year at the Huskies' helm.

Backup tight end Chris Izbicki passed Middleton on the depth chart during spring practice, though Middleton was expected to be a big contributor this season for Washington, which visits BYU on Sept. 4.
