SALT LAKE CITY — Working through the night, contractors and workers placed the steel framework of a pedestrian bridge across Main Street in downtown Salt Lake City early Sunday. The bridge will serve as a walkable connector for the City Creek mixed-use development.
The bridge measures nearly 140 feet across, weighing about 320,000 pounds. Some 150 workers from Jacobsen Construction, SME Steel and Mountain Crane coordinated the bridge framework move. Main Street will remain closed temporarily to vehicle traffic until Saturday, March 27. The bridge will be enclosed and finished with art glass panels, opening to the public in 2012.
