SALT LAKE CITY — Making sure kids are good readers before they move up a grade is the goal of a bill by Sen. Karen Morgan, D-Cottonwood Heights.
SB150 received passage in the House Thursday night with a 43-29 vote.
The legislation requires parental notification regarding remediation for certain students that read below grade level in first, second and third grades. Further, school districts must provide remediation.
The bill was passed by the Senate, 23-6, as the last piece of business before adjourning late Thursday night.
