Man sentenced for chaining girlfriend

A man who chained his girlfriend to an engine block has been sentenced to zero to five years in prison for third-degree felony assault as part of a plea bargain. In return, a second-degree felony kidnapping charge was dismissed.

Third District Judge Randall Skanchy also ordered that Fernando Orozco-Trevizo, 32, be deported to Mexico.

Prosecutors contend Orozco-Trevizo beat and choked his girlfriend and chained her to the engine block with a 20-foot chain and padlock to prevent her from leaving.

The woman was rescued in December after a neighbor saw "Call 911" written in the condensation on a window.
