Racing for a cause

The Komen race is held annually — Salt Lake's version since 1997 — to increase awareness about breast cancer and to raise funds for research and other support programs. The Utah chapter reports on its Web site that more than $2.5 million has been raised in the state, with 75% of net proceeds going to programs in Utah. The remainder goes to the national foundation for breast-cancer research grants.
