Throughout 2003, the City Library System is celebrating the opening of its new Main Library. As part of this celebration, the library has planned the first Dewey Lecture Series featuring monthly programs with noted experts from across the country and around the world.
The next lecture features Diane Ackerman, poet/writer and professor at Cornell University, on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 7:30 p.m., at the new Main Library, 210 E. 400 South. Free tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on July 19 at all City Library locations.
Prior to the lecture, the library will host a special reception with Ackerman at 6 p.m. for conversation and book signing. Tickets for the reception and priority lecture seating are available at The Library Store for $75 per person ($60 if four or more tickets are purchased at one time).
The Dewey Lecture Series seems a particularly appropriate title. Melvil Dewey's classification system was a revolutionary process that brought order to the general knowledge of the world.
