SPANISH FORK A West Jordan woman is dead after her pickup truck rolled near milepost 196 on U.S. 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon Monday afternoon, Trooper Kellie Oaks of the Utah Highway Patrol reported.
Killed was:
Cindy Bennion, 44, West Jordan.
Bennion was rounding a curve when her pickup truck drifted off to the right and hit a covert, which caused the vehicle to roll, Oaks said. Bennion was ejected from the vehicle, but officials said they do not know if she was wearing a seat belt.
There were no witnesses to the accident, but a second accident occurred when the driver of a van stopped on the highway upon noticing the rolled truck. A semi-truck was unable to stop before slamming into the van.
A total of four cars were involved in the second accident, including one that drove off the road to avoid the collision, Oaks said.
Only minor injuries were reported from the second accident, although one woman was transported by ambulance to Mountain View Hospital in Payson. The woman was eight months pregnant, Oaks said.
Traffic was shut down on the highway for nearly 45 minutes before crews were able to clean up the accident.
Police are still investigating the accident, Oaks said.
