3-year-old drowns in Lake Powell

A 3-year-old boy drowned near the shore of Lake Powell Thursday.

According to a National Park Service news release, the boy had disappeared around 6:30 p.m. from a large houseboat group in the Hall Creek Bay area. The boy had been on the shoreline and had not been wearing a life jacket.

Lifeguards and the Glen Canyon Underwater Recovery Team were sent to look for the boy, whose body was found in 4 feet of water alongside the houseboat at 8:30 p.m. The boy's name has not been released, and the drowning is under investigation.
