One district — or 3?

Rep. David Cox, R-Lehi, addresses a small group that turned out for a meeting Thursday to kick off an initiative drive intended to convince Utah County commissioners that the Alpine School District should be split into three smaller districts. The district currently has more than 50,000 students. The Legislature this year passed a bill outlining the process for such restructuring. Cox said about 1,400 signatures are needed to force commissioners to conduct a required feasibility study. Once a study is complete, commissioners will decide whether to put the issue to a public vote.
