Obituary: Max Nielsen

Max George Nielsen, 77, of Orem, passed away peacefully on the 4th of July 2003.

He was born November 14, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Delbert L. And Anna Rosalea Ellis Nielsen. He married Mell Jarvis Whiting on Oct. 21, 1955 in Orem, Utah. Max served in the US Navy during World War II, and Korea. He had a great love for his country and served as commander and quarter master of the local VFW. He worked with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed bowling, swimming and spending time with his family. He had a deep testimony of the Savior and supported his family in their church callings.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mell, one daughter, Vesta (Dennis) Knighton of Cheyenne, WY; four sons; Craig (Aline), West Point, UT; Brad (Deborah), Holladay, UT; Chris, Orem, UT; George (Irene), Orem. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grand-children. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and

two sisters and one great-grandson.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at the Orchard Park Care Center for the loving care that was given to Max during his stay.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, 4800 North 650 East, in Provo. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State St. In Orem. Military Rites will be provided by VFW District #4.
