Elsewhere in southern Utah, the Wooden Shoe fire in the Dark Canyon Wilderness Area of the Abajo Mountains west of Blanding grew to 900 acres Tuesday night, up from 750 acres Monday, said Paul Branchfield, planning section chief for the fire.

The fire, which started Friday, is burning brush in a canyon. "They're suspecting it's human caused, but they haven't an explanation as to its cause," he said.

The Lonesome Beaver, burning in the Henry Mountains 20 miles southwest of Hanksville, Wayne County, remains at about 3,000 acres, although it is 100 percent contained and controlled.

"Basically it's doing some interior burning, getting rid of some of the dead piles that actually burn in fires later on. It's no hazard to anyone," said Sherie Taylor of the Richfield Interagency Center.

The fire was ignited May 30 by lightning, Taylor said.

In Finn Canyon, 18 miles west of Price, firefighters continue to mop up a 100-acre fire, which is more than 90 percent contained.
