Silver Stars lose to Comets

HOUSTON — Michelle Snow had a career-high 19 points and eight rebounds as the Houston Comets beat the San Antonio Silver Stars 64-49 Saturday.

Tina Thompson added 19 points for the Comets. Gwen Jackson scored 15 points and Marie Ferdinand tallied 10 for the Silver Stars.

Houston led by as many as 19 points in the first half. But the Silver Stars used an 11-5 run in the final 3:31 to close to 34-21 at the break. Snow led all scorers with 10 points at halftime.

The Comets' offense stalled in the second half, and the Silver Stars cut the lead to 48-45 with 7:16 remaining. That's when Snow and Thompson led a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach.

STING 69, SUN 55; In Charlotte, N.C., Andrea Stinson scored 15 points and Teana McKiver added 14 points and a career-high nine rebounds as the Charlotte Sting won their sixth straight home game.

Shannon Johnson led Connecticut (6-7) with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Nykesha Sales added 10 points.

The Sting (8-5) took a 31-28 halftime lead despite shooting 31 percent from the field.

MERCURY 68, SHOCK 65: In Auburn Hills, Mich., Adrian Williams had a career-high 20 points and 11 rebounds as Phoenix ended Detroit's eight-game winning streak.

The defeat was the first for the Shock since opening night.

Kayte Christensen added 11 points for the Mercury, while Deanna Nolan led Detroit with 14 points and Swin Cash added 12. But Cash missed two free throws in the final minute and was just 4-of-9 from the line in the game.

Cheryl Ford added eight points and 10 rebounds for Detroit.

FEVER 79, STORM 70: In Indianapolis, Tamika Catchings scored 20 points, became Indiana's career leader in rebounding and added a career-high seven assists to lead the Fever over Seattle.

It was the 10th consecutive victory at Conseco Fieldhouse for the Fever, who haven't lost here since last July 19.

Catchings became the second player in franchise history to score 800 points, bringing her total to 806 and only 46 short of the franchise record set by Rita Williams from 2000-'02. The fifth of seven rebounds Catchings grabbed Saturday moved her past the franchise mark of 372 set by Olympia Scott-Richardson.

Natalie Williams added 18 points for Indiana.

The Storm played without injured league scoring leader Lauren Jackson. Sandy Brondello led Seattle with 19 points.
