PROVO An arraignment for a charge that Eagle Mountain Mayor Kelvin Bailey gave a false report to police was postponed Tuesday until Aug. 5.
Bailey was charged in April with a class B misdemeanor after he told his wife that he'd been kidnapped March 27 by a man with a gun on and forced to drive to Barstow, Calif.
Bailey's wife reported him missing to police.
Bailey recanted the story when pressed for details by federal agents and Utah police. Bailey reportedly told investigators he made the 500-mile drive himself because he was struggling with the stresses of his responsibilities as mayor and with his job as a construction consultant. He admitted to making up the story to appease his wife until he could he could return home and explain his disappearance.
The charge was filed by Utah County Attorney Kay Bryson and will be handled in the Utah County Justice Court.
