Sun block Comets a 2nd time

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Shannon Johnson scored 21 points and had eight assists to lead the Connecticut Sun to a 65-58 victory over the Houston Comets on Saturday night.

The Comets were without two-time league MVP Sheryl Swoopes, who sprained her right ankle in the closing minutes of the first half. Nykesha Sales added 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Connecticut (3-2), which also beat the Comets 91-83 in Houston on May 30. Tina Thompson led the Comets (3-4) with 25 points, including eight in a 15-2 spurt after Swoopes went out with 5:10 left in the first half.

FEVER 86, LIBERTY 66: In Indianapolis, Tamika Catchings scored 24 points and Stephanie White added 15 as Indiana beat New York. The Fever (2-1) dominated New York from the outset, forcing turnovers, getting easy points in the paint and consistent 3-point shooting, falling only one point shy of the team record for points. K.B. Sharp led New York (2-2) with 14 points.

ROCKERS 67, STING 57: In Cleveland, Chasity Melvin scored 12 points, and Lucienne Berthieu had a career-high 11 as Cleveland beat Charlotte. Melvin added seven rebounds for Cleveland (3-1).Dawn Staley and Kelly Miller each had 11 points for the Sting (4-2).

SHOCK 74, SILVER STARS 55: In San Antonio, Kendra Holland Corn scored 13 points and Swin Cash added 12 for Detroit. Deanna Nolan and Cheryl Ford each scored 11 points to help the Shock (2-1) move above the .500 mark for the first time in 86 games. Marie Ferdinand led the Silver Stars (2-5) with 16 points, and Gwen Jackson had 15 points and 14 rebounds.
