Summer is finally here, but that doesn't mean you should spend all your time watching TV. Here are some inexpensive and fun activities, events and places you can take the family before the season comes to an end all too soon.

Tracy Aviary

June 5, July 9, Aug. 2 and Aug. 18 "Little Bird" workshops for children ages 2-5. Learn about bird babies, participate in story-time and a live bird presentation. Clark Planetarium

June 6, July 7, Aug. 4 and Sept. 3 — Come to Clark Planetarium's "Moonlight Madness" star parties on the Legacy Plaza at The Gateway to view the full moon through the planetarium's telescopes. The party begins at 9 p.m. Admission is free. 456-7827; www.clarkplanetarium.org

Utah's Hogle Zoo

June 7, July 5 and Aug. 2 — Sunrise Safaris begin at 7:30 a.m. See the animals as they wake up for the day. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children 3-12. For information, including the dates for Twilight Ticket Tuesdays when the zoo is open late, call 582-1631.

"Hooked in Coalville"

June 14 — Celebrate Utah's statewide fishing day by fishing at Echo Marina; or, for $8, compete in a fishing derby from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded every hour. The person who catches the longest fish of the day wins $500. Registration forms are online at www.coalvillebusiness.com. At 1 p.m. children can catch fish with their hands during the "Kids Ditch Derby" in downtown Coalville. A street dance begins at 8 p.m. 435-640-3109

Utah's Hogle Zoo
