Australian biotechnology company Genetic Technologies Ltd. has granted a research license to its noncoding patents to the University of Utah.

It is the first research license the company has granted to an academic institution. It will permit the university to expand its genetic research program into the noncoding regions of many genomes with the support of Genetic Technologies.

Financial terms were not disclosed. A separate commercial license from the company would be needed for any future commercial applications arising from the research.
