Jeffrey D. Duncan has been named director of the Office of Vital Records and Statistics in the Utah Department of Health.
He replaces Barry E. Nangle, who is now director of the department's Center for Health Data.
Duncan's background in health informatics, research and statistics and the six years he's spent working in the office make him a natural for the job, said Nangle. "Jeffrey has been a major contributor to the development of new systems, services and statistical products over the past few years in vital records. He will be key to the continued progress of these efforts."
Duncan will oversee registration, certification and statistics sections within the Office of Vital Records and Statistics. He will also be responsible for vital records operations across 12 local health districts that register death certificates and certify births and deaths.
Duncan graduated with a master of science degree in medical informatics from the University of Utah. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Submarine Service and served in the National Guard for a decade.
