Region 3

TAYLORSVILLE BASEBALL: The Warriors, 23-1 and ranked No. 1 in Class 5A, moved up from eighth to sixth in the Baseball America National High School Baseball poll. The Warriors play Clearfield today at 7 p.m. at Lindquist Field in the semifinals.

Region 4

ROY BASKETBALL: Davis High assistant Troy Anderson was named the Royals' boys basketball coach. He replaces Lyndon Johnson, who accepted the head basketball coaching position at Brighton last month.

Region 6

SPRINGVILLE FOOTBALL: Red Devil football coach Doug Bills is looking for an endowment football game Aug. 22. For information contact Bills at 801-489-2870.

Region 7

MCCOY RESIGNS: Orem High baseball coach Ray McCoy said this year will be his last at the head man for the Tigers.

"If the program wasn't heading in the right direction I wouldn't be stepping down," McCoy said.

McCoy said he will pursue additional scouting responsibilities with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Tigers, the Region 7 second-place team (7-5, 15-6), are currently in the Class 4A playoffs and will play Cyprus today at 4:30 p.m. at BYU's Miller Field.

In his first year last year, the Tigers went 3-5 in region play and 11-12 overall.

HALL HIRED: As expected, Pleasant Grove has hired four-year assistant coach Ryan Hall to take over as head coach of the Vikings baseball team. He replaces Jon Hoover, who retired after leading Pleasant Grove's diamond program for 30 years.

Hall is a former star at Springville High School, College of Southern Idaho and BYU. He played briefly in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system. He teaches special education at Pleasant Grove.

Region 9

PALMER, GARRETT SIGN: Pine View High basketball standouts Andy Palmer and Brad Garrett, who were both first-team all-state selections, have signed to play at Dixie State College.

CLASS 2A

REATHER COMMITS: Juan Diego's Nicole Reather, who just led the Soaring Eagle to its third consecutive softball title, will play softball at Endicott College in Beverly, Mass.
