SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Kenya's James Koskei won the 7.4-mile Bay To Breakers Bay race for the third straight time Sunday, while Ludmila Biktasheva was the top female finisher.
Koskei completed the course through the city in 35 minutes, 11 seconds. John Itati was second in 35:33 and Patrick Nthiwa finished third in 35:50. Biktasheva clocked 39:22.
Last year, eventual winner Luminita Talpos of Romania collided with the Microsoft "centipede" entrant in the final stretch, sending the 13-member team of runners sprawling across the pavement as she cruised to the finish line.
A centipede entrant is a team of runners tethered together and competing as a unit, often with the unspoken goal of trying to beat the fastest woman.
There was no such drama this year as the Microsoft runners had crossed the line before Biktasheva finished. Talpos was third this year.
