Nordstrom's statement: "I just wish it would have happened six months ago" (in reference to the LDS Church purchase of Crossroads Plaza ) is pretty pathetic. Nordstrom would not have done anything different six months ago besides its constant threatening to leave if it does not get its way. It is obvious Nordstrom has no commitment to anyone other than itself.
Let Nordstrom leave downtown. Relocating it to the Gateway will make it a mall just like any other, causing it to lose its unique neighborhood feel of small shops and boutiques. After Nordstrom has made the Gateway like any other mall, it will bolt again if things are not going its way.
The Gateway draws people downtown because it is different, and from their tales of woe, it seems that Nordstrom does not have what it takes to get people downtown anyway. Let Nordstrom go, and preserve the Gateway's character as it is.
