2/9/15 ~ 5/3/03
Glen Hoier Carter, 88, was born February 9, 1915, in Provo, Utah, the oldest son of Loren Ezra and Cara Camilla Rosaila Hoier Carter.
Glen moved on to the next mountain range to discover on Saturday, May 3, 2003 in Provo, Utah.
Glen was raised in the Provo and Orem area. He married his sweetheart, Margaret Rula Chappell on January 23, 1942, in Evanston, Wyoming. She died September 15, 1984. They had two sons and one daughter. Glen loved to hunt and camp with his brothers and family and passed this on to his children. Keeping his garden and flowers were a pass time to keep him busy and something to share with neighbors and friends. He received his education in Provo and graduated from Orem High School in May 1935. His formal education consisted of a few months at the Utah Technical College when the instructors advised him there was nothing more they could teach him he did not already know.
Glen served his country with two tours of duty in the United States Navy, before and during World War II. He was a marksman and had received a Presidential Citation.
He had been employed as a service manager for Sears and had worked for Rodeway Inn for many years.
Dad was always ready to share his garden and serve others who needed his help. He was a hard worker which he taught his children and grandchildren to do. He also taught them to say the alphabet backwards!
He was survived by his children, Howard Glen (Linda) Carter, Provo; Bruce Mac (Mary) Carter, Orem; and Diane Lindberg, West Valley, Utah; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren with three more soon to come. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Clifford John Carter, Orem; Boyd Max Carter, Provo; Erma Peay, Mapleton; and Bertha Jean Cooper, St. George. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two brothers, Golden Loren Carter (his twin) and Harold Woodrow Carter.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 8th, at 11 a.m. in the Provo City Cemetery. Friends may call at the Walker Funeral Home of Provo, Wednesday, May 7th from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to going to the cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted.
The family would like to thank all those who were involved with his care during the past few years, especially those at Golden Living Care Center of Orem and Crestview Care Center in Provo. Their love for him was a great help to him and his family
