AMERICAN FORK- Two weeks following a stroke that slowed the body of our dear sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Harriet Marchant Pearson Mulliner, age 89, peacefully and quietly slipped from mortality. Our sorrow in her passing is only exceeded by her joyous reunion with loved ones, friends, and family including her husband, Joe.
Harriet was born in the home of her aunt on March 6, 1914 in Peoa, Utah to Mary Ann Casper Marchant and Levi Pearson. She was the oldest of six children born to her parents, but was the seventh child born to Levi Pearson who had lost two previous wives. Her family lived on a farm in Oakley, Utah. She loved her brothers and sisters and family history has always been an important part of her life.
She graduated from Utah State in 1934. She married Joseph Bryan Mulliner in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 1, 1939. and they made their home in Shelley, Idaho. Two children were born while living in Idaho, Kent and Mary Jo. Near the end of World War II, the family moved to American Fork, Utah to help build and then work at Geneva Steel. Their third child, Max was born in American Fork. Joe passed away in 1968. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Harriet worked and devoted much of her life to the residents of the Utah State Training School in American Fork and took the residents into her life and into her heart. To better serve them, she earned a Master's Degree in Education from BYU. She loved to learn and lived to serve. She was a regular patron of the public library and was always interested in learning something new and reading something good. She worked as a Pink Lady at the American Fork Hospital and had many friends and associates there. She was actively involved in both civic and church organizations including the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She recently made 50 dolls to send to an orphanage in Mozambique where her daughter and son-in-law are serving as LDS Humanitarian Missionaries.
Harriet is survived by one brother Lee (Mary) Pearson, Arlington, Virginia; one sister Naomi (Ed), Seattle, Washington; her three children: Kent (Lian), Rutland, Ohio; Mary Jo Roberts (Rick) currently Maputo, Mozambique; Max (Jeani), Riverton, Utah; 14 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful to Harriet's loving neighbors and friends that were such an important part of her life, Dr. Mower and other professionals that made the past two weeks such a tender experience; allowing us to provide care for someone that always cared so much for others.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the American Fork 7th Ward at 688 West 500 North. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson and Sons Mortuary (49 East 100 North in American Fork) and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will be in the American Fork Cemetery.
