No oxygenated fuel in Utah County — for now

PROVO — Motorists can stop avoiding the local pumps because of oxygenated fuel in the mix. The 2002-03 season ended in February.

But there's no guarantee the dreaded mix won't be back next year.

County Commissioner Jerry Grover says it's too soon to assume the county won't be mandated again to use the special gas even though the county is no longer designated as out-of-compliance with carbon monoxide standards.

"It's iffy," Grover said. "It's in the hands of the division of air quality who have to conduct a bunch of intersection and hot- spot tests and look at the results before we order again in July."
