Obituary: Edna Pearl Elmer Gerber

The family of Edna Pearl Elmer Gerber wishes to announce a rejoicing and celebration of her life. She died Thursday, January 9, 2003 in Orem, Utah of natural causes.

Edna was born to Hyrum King Elmer and Cynthia May Haskell on June 6, 1904 in Payson, Utah. She is the third child of seven that were born in Grandma Haskell's home.

Edna's love of school was manifest in her sharp mind and quick intellect, especially when it came to playing games, working crossword puzzles, and putting jigsaw puzzles together. She always had a love of music and sang in many choruses throughout her life. Edna, along with her friends, would attend dances on Saturday nights, and it was at one of these dances that she met her future husband, Hugh Jacob Gerber. They fell in love and were married Sept. 19, 1923 in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Edna and Hugh had five children, four sons and a daughter: Elmer (LaRue), Wayne, deceased, (Donna), Marvin (Alene), Sterling (Laurel), Joyce (Bob) Frederickson; 76 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh, and her son, Wayne.

Edna was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many leadership positions in the church. She has spent her life serving her family with great love and compassion.

The funeral will be Monday, January 13, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the Spanish Fork 4th/7th Ward Chapel, 400 North 400 East. Friends may join with the family at Walker Family Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork, on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Payson City Cemetery.
