MURRAY, Utah - Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Genevieve Amanda Rasmussen Nielsen Bytendorp, age 89, was called home Sunday, January 5, 2003 after a brief struggle with cancer.
Gen was born June 16, 1913 in Bennett, Uintah, Utah the daughter of Albert Rasmussen and Marian Wilson. She married Willard Evans Nielsen on August 25, 1931. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1957. She married Lain Bytendorp on March 7, 1963. He passed away on November 16, 1985, survived by a large loving family.
Gen is known by her family as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always known for her service to her family, friends, neighbors and church. Gen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Primary, Sunday school and Relief Society. She was active as a member of the Midvale Senior Citizens Center (serving as quilting chair), and the Friendly Club (served as treasurer).
Gen and Willard are survived by their five children, Glade Willard Nielsen (Ruth Annette Cochran), Leah Nielsen (Grant Lloyd Ivie), Carma Nielsen (Norman Authur Pobanz), Verlan R. Nielsen (Barbara Ann Bassett), Keith R. Nielsen (Robin Joan Gardner); 16 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; one great-great -grandchild. Gen's siblings are: Eda Elaine Iverson, Leeton La Mar Radmall, and Oleva Timothy. Deceased siblings: Alice Gertrude Timothy; Albert Calvin Rasmussen Marian Blanche Godfrey. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at the South Cottonwood 13th Ward, 5235 S Wesley Rd., Holladay, UT. Friends may call Wednesday, January 8, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. at the Memorial Mortuary, 5850 So. 900 East . Interment, Lake Hills Memorial Park.
The family expresses their thanks to the staff of The Residence of Care Source for the Hospice care and attention they provided for mother.
In lieu of those wishing to send flowers, the family suggest that a donation to Care Source (1624 E. 4500 S. Salt Lake City 801-266-7200) or the Utah Cancer Society in Gen's name would be appropriate and appreciated.
