Primary Children's Medical Center has been named among the top 10 children's hospitals in the United States after an extensive, nine-month review by Child magazine.

The magazine began its search for the best children's hospitals nationally with 100 medical centers that are members of the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions. Its research team then narrowed the field to 54 hospitals based on their evaluation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

The 54 semifinalists were asked to fill out a 72-question survey that covered survival rates, staff qualifications, nurse-to-patient ratios, comforts such as child-life specialists who use toys and games to ease patients' fears, safety issues, and data on three key departments at any hospital — the oncology program, neonatal intensive care unit and the heart center. Primary Children's ranked at number 10 nationally. The top-ranked hospital was the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Pa.
