Students in a hip-hop dance class, right, and a cooking class, below, are all smiles as they participate in Mayor Rocky Anderson's YouthCity After-School Program at Glendale Middle School in Salt Lake City. The program marks the first time YouthCity has located its activities at a local public school. Glendale Middle School is the only Title I middle school in the Salt Lake City School District, with more than 94 percent of the students defined as low income, 54 percent classified as limited English proficient, and more than half coming from single-parent homes. "Glendale is the perfect example of a place where many challenges exist alongside ever greater opportunities," said Janel Wolf, director of youth programs in mayor's office.
